THE MAN IN THE GREEN SHIRT
On April 28, 2001, on a Saturday morning the Holy Spirit woke me up around 8:00am. He said, “Go tell the man in the green shirt that I love him.”
I thought that was a funny thing so I turned back over and tried to go back to sleep. Again in my spirit I heard it but I just ignored it because I thought it was in my mind.
A third time….but this time I literally felt someone beside me and hands were on my shoulder pushing on me as to wake me up. It felt so real that I remember turning back over to look to see who was there. But there wasn’t anyone. Again I heard in my spirit, “I said, ‘Got tell the man in the green shirt that I love him!’”
So reluctantly I got up and I put my clothes on and headed out the door and drove toward the bank. I remember feeling so stupid. I was thinking that I really lost it this time. I also remember as I crossed over the Weaver Bridge in Clinton, that God must have a sense of humor and that there was probably a bowling team on the parking lot of the bank and they were all dressed in green uniform shirts.
But as I pulled on the parking lot of the K-25 bank I noticed there was no bowling team. In fact, I don’t even remember seeing any vehicles on the lot. But, I parked my vehicle and walked into the bank anyway.
When I walked in, there was no one inside the lobby of the bank and no one in line waiting to be waited on. As I quickly scanned the teller line I saw three female tellers and at the end (actually at the beginning of the line) was one sole man being waited on and he was wearing a green shirt.
My heart almost came to a stop. I quickly turned around and walked right strait out the door. My heart was in my throat and I remember as I paced the sidewalk I began to panic and was thinking, “What am I going to do? What am I going to say?” and the Holy Spirit again said, “Tell the man in the green shirt that I love him.”
As the man came out of the door I said interrupted the man and said, “Sir, may I speak to you?” (Thousand of thought running through my head like, ‘I don’t know this man!’, ‘He’s going to think I’m nuts!!’, and this one…..He probably thinks I going to rob him.’)
But I said, “Sir, may I speak to you?”
He said, “Yes.”
I said, “I know you don’t know me but the Holy Spirit woke me up this morning and told me to come here and tell the man in the green shirt that He loves him. So, Sir, Jesus loves you!”
This man bowed his head and with tears in his eyes he said, “I used to preach!” He continued and said, “Sir, do you know why I am here?”
I said, “No”
He said, “I am here because I’ve turned my back on God, left the church and I started my own business. I am here because I am taking the last money we have to go buy food for the family and pay on the rest of the bills.”
Right then the Holy Spirit welled up inside of me and I began to exhort and encourage this man. I told him that if he would repent and ask God to forgive him and do what God had planned for him to do then God would see his every need met.
I asked the man if I could pray for him and he said that I could.
After I prayed for the man, we shook hands and I told him my name and he told me his and then we departed.
Three weeks later he called me and told me that God had forgiven him and he once again is preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Praise The Lord!
I am thankful for God’s mercy and divine order. I am thankful that God knows my heart and knows that even though I may be slow, He knows that I will obey Him no matter what it is. God will give you the same type of leadings if you will only follow Him. This is our calling.
I give God all the glory and all the honor for His grace is truly sufficient!!!
